Please Turns Three: A Night of Jazz, Wine, and Sex Ed!

  • Please 557 5th Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11215 United States (map)

Please is turning three! To show our appreciation for our community and your support, we invite you to join us in celebration of this sensual solar return with a night of jazz, wine, and sex education! We'll be hosting mini versions of our most popular workshops in three courses throughout the evening. First course, Rope Bondage with our beloved in-house rope mistress Yin Q. For the second course, we'll indulge in the Art of Fellatio. Followed by our third course, the Art of Cunnilingus. We'll have refreshments for our guests because, as we are fond of saying, lubrication is key. Food will be provided by our neighbors at Jake's Handcrafted, serving up everyone's favorite artisanal sausages. And we'll be graced with the live musical stylings of The Hot Club of Flatbush! Don't miss the festivities!

In the past three years, Please has established itself as a sexual pillar in Park Slope. We opened up shop with a mission to change the way we think about sex, to empower our community with education, and to provide a nurturing, approachable space for questions and curiosities. Through our various workshops, social events, and day to day interactions, we've fostered a learning environment where people can come together and partake in engaging, meaningful dialogue, free from shame or judgement. At Please, we acknowledge the importance of curating a safe space for people to share their concerns and experiences, be heard, supported, and guided where needed. As much as we've imparted our expertise to others, we have also received a wealth of knowledge in these exchanges to help us better serve the public. Our little brick-and-mortar, as well as our online store, offer an enriching shopping experience for our diverse clientele, advocating sexual health and holistic personal wellness. Above all, we aim to serve as a trusted community resource and venue for enlightenment. We possess an unwavering commitment to honoring these core values and refining them as we continue to evolve.

Our founder, Sid, has been invited to speak at panels across the country, including Summit in LA, as well as college institutes like Pratt. This past year, she was featured as a panelist alongside Janet Hardy, co-author of The Ethical Slut, at Hacienda Studio, and also with sexperts Tina Horn and Effy Blue at House of Yes. More recently, she paneled with Buzz author Hallie Lieberman and - no relation - Janet Lieberman of Dame Products at a Women@Forbes event hosted by The Museum of Sex. She currently has running columns published with A Women’s Thing and Park Slope Reader, where she dishes on all things erotic. Sid has been interviewed by various prominent publications for her unique sexual perspective as a Malay Muslim woman, her background in healthcare, and her path to launching a pleasure boutique. Please is run and operated by Sid herself, in addition to a diverse staff of sex educators with various intersections of marginalized backgrounds and identities. Please has partnered with local organizations and businesses for everything from blowing glass dildos at Brooklyn Glass, to arming youth with sex ed at the Center for Anti-Violence Education, and you'll catch us at Brooklyn Pride every year. Being that we're located in the heart of family-oriented Park Slope, we initiated and host a mom’s group to speak candidly about sex, and have an extensive selection of books geared toward youth. Community involvement is a fundamental tenet of our ethos, and we regularly sponsor fundraising events and have contributed to Planned Parenthood, My Body Does, Beating Cancer in Heels, housing for queer and trans people of color, and even neighborhood schools.

On the horizon, we will soon be offering private online consultations, where you can set up an appointment with one of our staff sexperts for extended, personalized counsel on toys and sex ed. We excitedly anticipate the premiere of PLEASE, a short documentary on Sid's entrepreneurial journey as an immigrant woman of color opening a sex shop and the pursuit of pleasure. There are new classes in the works and always new things to learn! Our inventory - carefully curated and of the highest caliber for your pleasure as well as your safety - is ever-growing and we strive to offer more affordable body-safe toys, more products for our trans clientele, more fun innovation in sex tech, and to continue to serve as a store that's more than our merchandise.

As a small, independent business, our challenges are many, but none insurmountable with the support of our community. It is thanks to our regular customers and curious first-timers that we have persevered on the corner of 5th & 15th. With your loyalty, we plan to sustain ourselves here for a long time. We hope you'll join us in commemorating this third year, and that you'll stick around to see what else we have in store! We look forward to many more birthdays, celebrations, and, of course, orgasms!
